J.R. Haines Memorial Scholarship
Junior Ray Haines served twice as President of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer
Firemen's Association, 1963 and 1987. At the time of his death, July 25, 1996,
he was also the Chaplain of the Association. J.R. was a member of the Keyser
Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years, having served as President three times,
among several other offices.
Referred to many as the 'Father of Counseling', he was the first Guidance
Counselor the Mineral County WV School system. J.R. served as Director of Pupil
Service in Mineral County from 1960 until he retired in 1982. Following
retirement, he served as a judge for numerous local and regional science and
social studies fairs. He also judged current events contests in all three
Mineral County High Schools. For his commitment to education and dedication to
the fire service, the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen's Association sponsors
a Fire Service Scholarship in his memory.

Kenneth E. Butts Memorial Scholarship
Kenneth E. Butts was elected President of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer
Firemen's Association in 1996. At the time of his death on January 9,
1997, he was also President of the Berkeley Springs WV Volunteer Fire Company
and the Director of the Morgan County WV Department of Emergency Services.
Kenny was an industrial arts teacher and Department Head at Southern Fulton
Junior-Senior High School in Wardforsburg, PA. For his commitment to
education and dedication to the fire service, the Cumberland Valley Volunteer
Firemen's Association sponsors an Emergency Medical Services Scholarship in his
memory.
